El Calado Cellar, 1892

Once he had achieved financial stability, Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta began to put his grand design into practice with great enthusiasm.  He started by building a big winemaking cellar excavated out of rock. Its main gallery was 215 metres long, stretching towards the River Ebro.

This megalithic project was the work of a team of stonemasons. The enormous rocks they hacked out would later be used to build the ashlar walls needed as the López de Heredia premises expanded.
